About Ms. Alex

Alex Patrick, affectionately known as “Acro with Alex” or “Ms. Acro”, graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Creative Advertising, a B.A. in Dance Management and Production, as well as a minor in Dance Performance. She is certified by the Acrobatic Arts (Module 2), Acrobatique Acrodance (ADTA) and Alixa Flexibility (Module 2).  

 

She is the Founder and Director of SHAPPE Dance, a professional contemporary fusion company aimed at bringing more diversity and inclusivity to the dance industry. The company also hosts programs for student choreographers.


Alex is a national award-winning choreographer, stage manager, and international performer. She has choreographed and worked in Canada, New Orleans, Dallas, Oklahoma and Los Angeles, including the world-renowned Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Alex was a Stage Manager on staff with the SMU Division of Dance and with the All Stars Project. She has over a decade of dance administration, teaching, choreographing and management experience.


As the first in the Southwest region to become Acrobatic Arts Certified, Alex teaches ages 3 through adult and levels Primary through Pre- Professional 3. The 12-level curriculum is based on safe and effective progressions for balance, strength, flexibility, limbering, and tumbling as they pertain to dance technique.


During college, Alex danced with the SMU Meadows Ensemble and was a part of the first company to perform at the Annette Strauss Square. She has performed at the Dallas Museum of Art, Rivertown Theaters, all theaters associated with the beautiful Dallas Arts District, and aboard Carnival Cruiseline.


Additional performance career highlights include: Destiny’s Child, Carrie Underwood, Sheryl Crow, Pepsico, TITAS, Celebrity Dance Competitions, Museffect/Muse Dance Company, Oreah Dance Company, Good Dance Since 1984, The Dallas Conservatory’s Rockefeller Christmas Spectacular & Disney’s The Little Mermaid in New Orleans, LA.


Alex loves inspiring her students to excel in their craft. Alex is able to tune into what works for each individual student, body type, personality type, learning style and even varying levels of confidence. Ms. Alex replaces fear with technique, while prioritizing work ethic and positivity. Her teaching goals are: to create a positive and diligent environment, to nurture versatile talent that emphasizes both technique and style, and to foster passion for the performing arts. Alex primarily teaches jazz, acro, contemporary and flexibility classes.
